07/04/2011 South Downs National Park Appoint Fitzpatrick Woolmer for Interpretation Design Scheme

Fitzpatrick Woolmer, one of the leading nationwide providers of interpretation signage and design, today announced its appointment by the South Downs National Park Authority to work on their flagship interpretation design scheme.

Interpretation Design and Display Work for South Downs National Park
The first interpretive sign is installed at St. Catherine's Hill in the South Downs National Park
Recognised as an area of outstanding beauty, the South Downs is home to a multitude of vibrant working communities steeped in history and traditional English culture, from the ancient cathedral city of Winchester in the west to the bustling market town of Lewes in the east.
Uniquely combining a biodiverse landscape with historic towns and villages, the site is home to more than 108,000 people.

The function of the National Park Authority is to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the area; and to promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the Park's special qualities by the public. The South Downs National Park will meet these objectives in part, by providing interpretation panels explaining the history, landscape and wildlife of the site.

Stephen Sibbald, Interpretation Officer for the South Downs National Park Authority said: "Fitzpatrick Woolmer have been consistently professional and innovative in their approach and execution of this project. They have met challenging deadlines and maintained good communication throughout. We are delighted with the outcome of the work".

Fitzpatrick Woolmer Managing Director, Mark Woolmer comments: "The opportunity to work with a National Park Authority doesn't arise every day - so it's no surprise to hear that we consider it a real privilege to be working on this project. The initial stage has involved the design of an interpretation scheme to be rolled out across the whole site, whereby a range of suitable design options for both interpretation panels and sign displays have been developed. In our designs we have focussed on capturing the essence of the site's heritage, and through our dynamic re-enactment illustrations, really evoke in visitors, a sense of 'being part of the scene'". Mark adds "As part of the current launch phase and in-line with challenging deadlines, I am delighted to say we have already completed works at St. Catherine's Hill and the results are very pleasing."
