Project Motivation
The function of the National Park Authority is to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the area and to promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the Park’s special qualities by the public. The South Downs National Park has met these objectives in part by providing interpretation panels explaining the history, landscape and wildlife of the site for which Fitzpatrick Woolmer were appointed.
Solution
Three interpretation design and sign display concepts were developed by Fitzpatrick Woolmer for the National Park Authority, one of which was chosen as the basis for a full interpretation design scheme. As well as easy-to-interpret computer generated maps of the Park and surrounding areas, the chosen concept incorporated the use of dynamic re-enactment illustrations, capturing the essence of the site's heritage and evoking a real sense of being part of the scene.
The signage element of the project involved the design and manufacture of bespoke oak wall-mounted sign and lectern displays, bearing custom-made headers replicating South Downs logo imagery with inset printed logo panels.
