Harlow Town was originally built after WWII to cope with the overcrowding in central London. Harlow was seen as ‘The New Town’ with a mix of redevelopment and green spaces with over a third of the district being either parkland or fields. Harlow Town Park is located in Essex and is set within 64 acres. The park is full of picturesque landscapes, river walks and views. In 2006 the park won the Green Flag award and is seen to be one of the finest parks around.
Harlow Council secured £1.83m from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery Fund to fund improvements to Harlow Town Park and appointed landscape architects Allen Scott to realise their vision for this public open space.
The style of signs proposed by Allen Scott was inspired by an original design from the 1960’s and it was our job to faithfully replicate the retro design using modern manufacturing techniques and materials.
A far cry from the sleek lines of today’s contemporary street furniture, this project is a great example of how our heritage can be brought back to life in a modern setting through updated fingerposts and entrance signage. It combined our metal and timber manufacturing skills and demonstrates our keen eye for design aesthetics.
