Mote Park, Maidstone Borough Council

Comprising 450 acres of historic parkland, Mote Park’s wide variety of facilities, attractions and scenery make it an exciting place to visit. Thanks to a recent £2.5m development scheme, from 2011 the park has benefit from the planting of 140 new parkland trees, while local historic views were restored, and the ecology of the park safeguarded for the future.

Formerly a country estate, the history of Mote Park dates back to the 13th Century. During the late 1700s the grounds were considerably improved, and the mansion that still stands overlooking the lake was built. At its peak in the late 1800s the estate featured extensive gardens containing exotic plants, orangeries, vineries and peach houses maintained by 25 gardening staff.

Project Motivation

As part of the £2.5m park improvement scheme it was determined that there was a requirement to provide detailed on-site interpretation and wayfinding. The public generally new very little about the park's history and bio-diversity, and often were not aware of available facilities due to the shear size of the park.

Project Solutions

As part of the service we were required to undertake full research and collation of images and copy for site specific interpretation and park wide orientation displays. Working to brand guidelines we designed informative and attractive interpretive panels, whilst communicating the brand at all times. The client was consulted at all stages to ensure complete satisfaction.

Waymarking posts were produced to promote the parkland and lakeside walking routes. Using our computer controlled routing system we were able to engrave wayfinding information to large green oak bollards, quickly and cost effectively.

We also supplied a number of more traditional park signs including our stainless steel Lancer™ with decorative header boards, our traditional stainless steel and cast aluminium finger posts and also our seasoned oak Musketeer™ lecterns. All combining to realise a consistent and cohesive waymarking and interpretation scheme.

Printed Graphic Panels

The graphic panels were our own n-viro™ product. To ensure consistency of brand, accuracy of colour and quality of image were key objectives of the print process, making n-viro™ the perfect choice. Offering excellent vandal resistance from its duoguard™ coating and lightfastness from UV cured ink technology, these panels will remain clear and attractive for years to come.
